NRA Basic Rifle

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

This course is at least 14 hours long. We teach it over a two day period allowing 1 day for classroom and 1 day for classroom/range. Students in the classroom will learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; how to shoot from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions. We will then make the move to the firing range and study these same five shooting positions and practice shooting them with 0.22 caliber firearms. Depending on student progress and comfort, and at the Instructor's discretion due to time constraints, we may introduce one or more other calibers & platforms, such as the common AR style platform .223/.556 and bolt action .243/.308. Upon returning to the classroom we will cover and discuss cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development either through private instruction we offer or other opportunities through the NRA.

Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.
All you need to bring to the class is a positive attitude with a willingness to learn, a desire to succeed, and a light lunch.

NRA Basic Shotgun

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target.

A shotgun is a long gun designed to be fired with two hands. It has a smooth bore (the inside of the barrel) and is designed to shoot a variety of ammunition, ranging from a solid bullet, called a slug, to multiple projectiles, called shot. Shotguns are often used in bird hunting, and in the sports of trap or skeet.

The Basic Shotgun course can be as short as ten hours. In it students will get the NRA's The Basics of Shotgun shooting handbook and intensive lessons in safety, gun handling, fundamentals of shotgun shooting, several practical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of shotgun sports and activities.
